With my new book arriving in just a week, I thought I'd share a little glimpse into the world of poetry that I've created. It's a world of words that I hope helps us all relate to one another a little more as I explore the emotions and thoughts inherent in living life... emotions like love, loss, hope, relief, and grief.
It's my belief that you can't know love without risking feeling pain. They go together, even though we often try to keep them apart. It's this duality that I explore inside the pages of this book. I was honored to have one of my favorite poets, Taylor Wray, contribute the Foreword for the book in which he writes:
“In Love and Pain, Martina offers up a bold display of vulnerability and the inspiring strength intrinsic in that openness.”
Here is a little glimpse at two of the poems from the book. Enjoy!
Glastonbury by Martina E. Faulkner
Our story isn't over,
It’s only our first song that has played.
Because we are a festival, not a radio,
And we still have many more days.
Even though leaving would be easier
Even though ending might seem smart,
It’s learning how to stay together
That is the true gift of the heart.
An excerpt from: VIP ACCESS by Martina E. Faulkner
Time is the great bouncer
Limiting our lives
To what we see
Before us
Even when we’re
Walking blind
We don’t see it
The access
We don’t get it
The promise of tomorrow
Is as fleeting as the
Checklist in his hand
